The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot by voice or through the app.

The i7+ is more efficient and more agile in our tests than the eufy best robovac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from all surfaces, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though it self-empties its dust bin which eliminates a major cause of maintenance and lowers the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room and sweep the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. We were able, once connected, to voice commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of vacuums that are cordless and look like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model is an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, high-energy lithium-ion battery that can provide energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then lets cleaner air into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to collect large crumbs and fine dust. It has three suction modes to meet the task at hand. It quickly converts from handheld to floor vacuum and back.

The model comes with a dock which charges the Dyson to 100 percent in 3.5 hours. It also offers an easy access to two attachments as well as the handheld. This is a big improvement over the older Dysons models, which take a long time to charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's main drawback is its limited run time. As CR's tests have shown, its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. The eufy RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba. It also comes with physical boundaries and can be controlled using your smartphone's voice assistant. It also feels better-built and has a stronger motor, and performs notably better on floors that are bare and low-pile carpet, while offering a wider range of automation options.

In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). However, it did not do particularly well with higher-up objects like cords or socks which was a disappointment. It's also a bit more expensive than the other models we've tested which could be a deterrent for some buyers.
