Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vac vacuum is able to keep the floors clean enough to cut down on the frequency with which you'll need to manually vacuum. Pick a robot vacuum that has good navigation, has the ability to clean corners and stairs, and that has large bins that needs to be cleaned out every now and then.

There are models that mop and charge themselves, which is a feature important for families with children or pets. Many of the top performers in our tests have good obstacle avoidance.

1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a good option for those who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but don't mind manually emptying their robot's dustbin as it gets full.

Both robots excel at picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors and they're excellent in getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates a smart maps of your home to help the i3+ navigate and clean up efficiently. However unlike the i7+ and other top rated robot vacuum-rated robots we tested the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles and therefore it could get stuck on things such as socks or power cords and may have issues navigating across surface transitions, such as from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends clearing areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include putting away any clutter or toys it might encounter. You should also keep the dustbin and filter clear to avoid becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station and empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it started. Battery life is about an hour and a half of constant use. It takes about three hours to charge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most crucial feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ can map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and control your robot with voice or through the app.

In our tests the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin that eliminates a major cause of maintenance and cuts down on the cost of maintenance.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room, and even vacuum the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. Once connected to these services, we were able give the i7+ voice commands, such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is a sports car in a world of cordless vacuums that feel like minivans and buses. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, yet it is also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered with a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy that can provide power without fading for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system traps allergens, then releases cleaner air into your home. Its specialized head uses stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets, and then pick up large particles or fine dust. It comes with three suction settings to match the task being performed. It is able to swiftly change from floor vacuum to handheld vacuum and vice versa.

This model also has an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments and an Wand clip. This is a huge improvement over older Dysons models, which take a long time to charge and are difficult to store.

the best robot vacuum cleaner main issue with the V10 is its limited running time. The claims of its marketing that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are not true as CR's tests have shown. This is a common, not exceptional, battery-powered vacuum's run time. It's still enough time to get rid of the majority of an average-sized house but not long enough to clean every spot (though an additional run-through often does the trick). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of the most well-known best value robot vacuum vacuums The 694 is an entry-level model that's a good choice for people who don't want to spend too much money on a robot. It was able to pick up most types of debris and sizes in our tests, and frequently went over the same area many times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front allows it to reach corners and the edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt to avoid obstacles and navigate around your home, but it isn't equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models like our top selections and the i3+ EVO and j7+ series. This means that it may get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often runs out of battery power before making it back to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694 because it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is outfitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower costs for recurring expenses and has more advanced automation abilities and is able to better maneuver its own. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.

The eufy RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most purposes, as it has a longer battery life, can change its suction power mode manually and comes with physical boundary strips, and can be operated by your phone's voice assistant. It is also more durable and has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on floors that are bare and low-pile carpet, while providing a wider array of features for automation.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name you see on all sorts of home electronics It's no surprise that they're one of the most reputable mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology for navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The app offers a variety of options to customize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior adjustments docking frequency settings and more. The app is easy to learn and use, just like other Samsung devices.

In our testing, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, clearing up 86 percent of it. However, it didn't do particularly well at avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested and this could be a problem for some shoppers.

The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that can be accessed via the app. You can also create a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. For instance my living room rug has a darkly colored border that has a tendency to make it difficult for other robots I've tried.
